What's New: Latest AveriSource Platform™️ Release Enhances Accessibility, Performance, and User Experience
Check out the updates our team has made in version 2.2 of the AveriSource Platform, including an upgraded .NET framework and custom SMTP server support.
It was just weeks ago that I announced a new era of innovation for application modernization aligned to the next release of the AveriSource Platform™️. Released at the end of May 2024, version 2.1 delivered on its promise to improve enterprise application security, connectivity, and the user experience. Now, less than six weeks later—and aligned to our theme of continuous delivery and accelerated application modernization—I’m excited to share that AveriSource has announced another brand new release to its industry leading modernization platform, further enhancing application analysis, business rules extraction, and legacy code transformation. Read on for all the highlights…
Keeping Pace
The pace of business change continues to accelerate, largely driven by the growth of hybrid cloud and new market trends such as GenAI. The latest market research and survey from McKinsey & Company stated that GenAI adoption grew by over 70% in 2023, with more than two-thirds of respondents indicating that they are already using AI in their organizations. Some are using GenAI across multiple business functions and narrowing their focus to where AI will deliver the most value to the business.
Staying in sync with this constant wave of technological change is challenging for most organizations, but especially so for those managing large and complex legacy systems. Often measured in millions of lines of code (MLOC) and running on mainframe or midrange systems, these applications typically span multiple business functions, locations, and geographies. They act as the hub of core business operations, serving both back-office and customer engagement use cases.
Implementing application change within this arena requires care and consideration. Mainframe application modernization demands a deep and thorough understanding of one’s application’s inventory, including its architecture, connections, data sources, data lineage, and relationships. Selecting the wrong modernization technology can complicate this (already complex) endeavor by introducing new risk and cost to the project.
Whether your goal is to simply analyze and document your legacy applications, extract business rules in support of an Accelerated Rewrite™️, or move to a cloud-native architecture by transforming your COBOL or RPG code to Java, C# or microservices, choosing the right technology—and partner—is often the key to digital transformation success or failure.
What’s New
The AveriSource Platform offers a complete approach to application modernization for mainframe and midrange systems. The platform is designed to meet you where you are on your digital transformation journey by enabling what matters most to your business and IT strategy. Supporting over a dozen modernization uses cases, this modular modernization portfolio accelerates the analysis and transformation of your legacy applications—on the mainframe, midrange, or the cloud.
This latest release delivers even more capabilities in support of that modernization journey, including platform improvement to usability and user experience, performance and scalability, platform currency and connectivity, just to name a few themes. Version 2.2 builds on the success of our major release—AveriSource Platform 2.0 announced earlier this year—which delivered a revolutionary redesign to our UX and enabled a first-class modernization user experience for application analysis, business rules extraction, and code transformation. Version 2.0 also announced new improvements to our AI-powered code transformation offering, AveriSource Transform, which—through AI-modeling and customized templates—enables rapid generation of modern, highly-structured Java or C# code, free from proprietary runtimes, library or JAR files, platform, or vendor lock-in.
Building on this momentum, AveriSource Platform 2.2 delivers the following new capabilities:
- Added 508 compliance and improved accessibility support across the AveriSource Platform and the AveriSource website
- Accelerated performance enabled through a complete upgrade of .NET across the platform
- New ability to utilize a personal SMTP server to send email notifications within the platform
- Recently developed capability to run time-intensive Block and File Analysis prior to analyzing any entry points
- Improved consolidation of pre-parser files in the AveriSource Platform installation package to reduce redundancy and improve ongoing maintenance
